I will tell you about the top five brands today.
 CoverGirl is an American Cosmetics Brand. It was established in the 1960s by Noxzema Chemical Company. In 1961 CoverGirl launched their first line of makeup which was called Clean Makeup, it consisted of 6 products.
Avon is an American international seller and selling company. They sell household, beauty and personal care products. The business was set up in 1886 by David H.McConnell in New York City. Avon products are now sold in over 140 countries and is worth around $392 million.
Revlon is an American skin care, personal care and fragrance company founded in 1932. The company began with one single product which was a nail enamel, it later moved into lipsticks after it had a whole manicure line. They are now sold in more than 100 countries.
Etude is a South Korean cosmetics brand which was set up in 1966. It is owned by Amore Pacific. It was only sold in a few countries for many years but is now sold worldwide.
L'Oreal Group is a French beauty and cosmetic company which was set up in 1919 by Eugene Schueller. The company slogan 'because we're worth it' has become a huge part of the company and the company have had many public figures in advertisements say this famous slogan. One face that appears quite often is Cheryl Cole. Below is one of their ads. The company is now worth

How is makeup made?

I am going to explain how foundation and mascara are made in this post.

Beginning with mascara. Not all mascaras are made using the same ingredients or method, but these are some of the widely used ingredients. All mascaras contain a pigment, oil and wax. Certain types of mascaras contain added ingredients eg. water resistant, lengthening and volumising. The most common pigment used is carbon black, which is used in black mascaras. Iron oxides are used in brown mascaras. There are lots of different oils used in mascaras, the most common being linseed,  castor, eucalyptus and sesame. Waxes found in mascara are usually beeswax, paraffin wax and carnauba wax.  Mascaras that are supposed to lengthen your lashes usually contain nylon or rayon microfibers. Water resistant mascaras often contain substances that rebuff water like dodecane.
There are two main ways to make mascara. One is called anhydrous. In this method all the ingredients are mixed, heated and agitated, creating a semi solid substance. This is then ready for packaging. The other method is called emulsion. In this method the water and thickeners are mixed first. The oils and waxes are mixed separately. Pigment is added separately to both mixtures. All the ingredients are then combined in a homogenizer. This then creates a semi solid mixture ready for packaging.
Now onto foundation. Today I am going to talk about water-based cream foundation. Most foundations contain an emollient base, water, pigment and preservatives. An emollient is a substance that is soothing and moisturizing to the skin. Different types of pigments are used depending on the foundation. The preservatives are used to keep it fresh and longer lasting. I was unable to find the process of making foundation.

My personal favourite makeup brand is Benefit Cosmetics. I love this brand because not only is it of high quality but it is relatively cheap. my personal favourite products from them are the 'They're Real' mascara and the 'Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow' foundation. i love this mascara because it is very volumising and lengthening, but is not clumpy. it also has a smaller end on the wand so you can reach all of the eyelashes, even in your inner corner. the foundation is great because it is very easy to build up. during the day a small bit will last you all day and give you enough coverage, but if you want you can build it up for night time and you will get very high coverage. all products that i have tried by Benefit Cosmetics i have loved, i would highly recommened trying them.
